Factoids -
Malaysia |
|
"Malaysia-
Traditional houses in Negeri Sembilan were built of hard
wood and entirely free of nails. They are built using beams,
which are held together by wedges. A beautiful example of
this type of architecture can be seen in the Old Palace of
Sri Menanti in Negeri Sembilan, which was built around 1905." |
|
 |
|
"Truly
magnificent example of Malay architectural creativity is the
Istana Kenangan in the royal town of Kuala Kangsar. Built in
1926, it is the only Malay palace made of bamboo walls.
" |
|
 |
|
"Built
in the late nineteenth century, the Sri Mahamariaman Temple
in Kuala Lumpur is one of the most ornate and elaborate
Hindu temples in the country. The detailed decorative scheme
for the temple incorporates intricate carvings, gold
embellishments, hand-painted motifs and exquisite tiles from
Italy and Spain. " |
|
 |
|
"Congkak
is a game of mathematics played by womenfolk in ancient
times that required no more than holes in the earth and
tamarind seeds. Today, it is a oval solid wood block with
two rows of five, seven, or nine holes and two large holes
at both ends called "home". Congkak, played with shells,
marbles, pebbles or tamarind seeds, requires two players." |
|
 |
|
"Colourful
and captivating, Malaysia's traditional textiles are much
sought after worldwide. Varieties include batik, songket,
pua kumbu and tekat. These textiles are made into all sorts
of decorative items, from haute couture clothes to shoes,
colourful curtains and delicate bed linen.

Salamat
Detang Ke Malaysia -Welcome to
Malaysia
Malaysia is blessed with its location. Situated just north of the
Equator between Thailand and Singapore, it is home not only to some of
the worlds most beautiful beaches and islands but also to ancient
Rainforests and Highlands with a plethora of exotic wildlife and plants.
Malaysia is a veritable melting pot of the various Asian peoples and
cultures.
|
Factoid: "Malay
houses are designed to protect against heat and
humidity. Built on stilts, with tiny holes in the
walls and high peaked roofs, they encourage even the
slightest breeze to move around and cool the
interior."
 |
Name:
The name "Malaysia" was adopted in 1963 when the Federation of
Malaya (Malay: Persekutuan Tanah Melayu), Singapore, Sabah and
Sarawak formed a 14-state federation. Singapore was expelled
from the federation in 1965 and subsequently became an
independent country.

Kuala Lumpur: Despite rapid development, Kuala Lumpur has
managed to retain her charm, with a skyline that blends the Old
World with the New. See the contrast between the Indo-Moorish
architecture and the ultra modern edifices, the Petronas Twin
Tower - tallest in the world. Drive pass the elegant Jamek
Mosque, the bustling Chinatown and take a photo stop at the
majestic Royal Palace. Continue journey to the National Museum
and view the beautiful Lake Gardens. This is followed by a
demonstration of fine jewellery-making at OE Design. Final stop
will be the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre to get an insight of
pewter smithing and innovative pewterware design. |
|
Day 02 Kuala Lumpur
Breakfast at Hotel. Proceed for Batu Caves & Suburbs. Overnight
at Nova Hotel or similar.
Batu Caves & Suburbs: Drive through the Ambassadors' Row in Ampang, view Malaysian suburban homes as well as the rustic
rural area enroute to the internationally renowned Royal
Selangor Pewter where you will see the art of fine pewter
crafting. Next stop is the spectacular Batu Caves. This massive
limestone outcrop and its cavernous interior is home to Hindu
deities and one will need to climb 272 steps to fully appreciate
the caves. On the way back, stop at a batik factory to witness
Batik designing. |
|
Day 03 Kuala Lumpur Genting Highlands
Breakfast at hotel. Overland transfer to Genting Highlands.
Check in First world Hotel. Visit Theme Park (All Park).
Overnight at First World Hotel or similar.
Genting Highlands:
Genting Highlands is in Pahang, Peninsular Malaysia. A
self-proclaimed City of Entertainment, Genting is
Malaysia's low-budget, family-friendly, sanitized
attempt at Las Vegas. Located at an altitude of 1800
meters, temperatures in Genting are a good 5-10°C lower
than in Kuala Lumpur, generally staying in the 15-25°C
range. On a clear day, there are stunning views down
into the valley but when it's raining in KL, Genting
is swathed in rolling clouds and visibility drops to
zero. Thanks to the walkway system, you almost never
need to venture outside, but hotel rooms are unheated
and can get chilly at night.
The primary draw is that
Genting is the only place where you can gamble legally
in Malaysia, but there's also a theme park to keep the
kids amused. As a plus, being located up in the
highlands means it's cooler than the steamy lowlands. |
