Tourist Attractions in Madikeri:

Talakaveri:The place where River Kaveri originates.

Abbey Falls: Scenic waterfall.

Iruppu Falls:This is a sacred spot in south Kodagu on the Brahmagiri range of hills. River Lakshmana-tirtha flows nearby. Legend says that Rama and Lakshmana passed this way while searching for Sita.

Dubare: This is mainly an elephant-capturing and training camp of the Forest Department, at the edge of Dubare forest, on the bank of the river Kaveri, on the Kushalanagara - Siddapur road. The wild elephants are tamed and trained with the help of other tamed elephants and local tribes (the Kurubas).

Omkareshwara Temple: Temple was built by Lingarajendra II in 1820 in the Mumammadan style of architecture with a dome in the center and four turrets at four corners. Legend has it that the King put to death a pious Brahmin unjustly and in order to appease the spirit of the Brahmin, the temple was built.

Rajiv Gandhi National Park (Nagarahole): The Nagarahole Game Sanctuary is one of the most well-maintained game parks in India. The Nagarahole (meaning snake stream in Kannada) sanctuary derives its name from a serpentine river which flows through the park. The Park is spread over an area of 571 square km.

Coorg or Kodagu: The tiny district in the state of Karnataka is an astonishing land in the heart of the southern Indian peninsula. It is bordered by Dakshina Kannada to the northwest, Hassan District to the north, Mysore District to the east, Kannur District of Kerala state to the southwest and Wayanad district of Kerala to the south. The district headquarters is located at Madikeri. The lowest elevation is 900m above sea-level. The highest peak, Tadiandamol, has an altitude of 1,750m; Pushpagiri is 1,715m high. The principal river is the Kaveri River (Cauvery), which rises at Talakaveri on the eastern side of the Western Ghats, and with its tributaries drains the greater part of Kodagu.
